SUPER BLOG last class blog

Coming into college there were many things that were different from what I was used to in high school. One of the biggest changes was the way work was done and submitted. In college many assignments are required to be done online. When I got to English 101 it was the first time I was introduced to the “ONLINE CLASS ROOM” part of college. Blogger and blogging was all new and exciting to me in the beginning but after a while that feeling started to change. There were many things that decreased my interest and participation in the blogs. Most of those things we’re due to personal situations rather than the blog its self.
One of the biggest problems I felt involving the blog dealt with the timing and frequency. For each blog we were given to midnight on the due date to complete it. This was a good thing because it gives you the opportunity to finish the blogs with in a number of days and not immediately after its posted. The problem comes in because of the freedom and flexibility. Because the due dates are so far it gives people the opportunity to procrastinate longer. I can testify from a personal experience that because I knew I had a certain amount of time to finish the blog I would find myself procrastinating waiting to the last minute to complete it. I do not believe that there is anything you can do to solve this solution concerning due dates with blog because it’s due to personal problems why they aren’t completed. Honestly I believe that even though it leaves room for procrastination by allowing you a huge window of time to complete it, it should not be changed because the discussion to give us so much time to complete it is beneficial to us.   It is a great and gracious choice you have given us and those who know that will take full advantage of the opportunity and those who do not would not  complete the blog anyway no matter what the due date is. It is all about a matter of who  values their education enough to get up and complete the assignment, something you have no control over.
Another problem I had with the blogs is that sometimes I did not understand exactly what the direction were and what I was supposed to be doing. The directions for some of the blogs were very extensive and a lot of times I would think that I was supposed to be doing one thing when it was actually meant for me to do another. The original problem of the time issue and waiting to the last minute proved to hurt me once again because by the time I looked at the blog for the first time it left me a little time to ask questions only enough time to get it done because I has waited so late. That is one of the draw backs from not taking the opportunity to get it done ahead of time you ultimately have to pay the price for it later on. I think there was so much more participation in the beginning because the blogs were fun and light but as the semester went on they began to require more participation and involvement because the topics were more in depth. This is probably what mainly caused a lack of interest in the blogs.  Personally I ran into a problem with this because I had a lot of work in my other classes including English and the blogs just added on to that load I would often skip one or two post or comments because I always knew I could possibly make up for it the following week. This a problem that can not really be complained about and I must take full responsibility for because after all this is college so having large amounts on work is expected and required in order for you to be a successful student.  There are some things that can be changed to make improvements for next years class.
The first suggestion of improvement concerns the service we use. I believe that we should be able to use other devices such as moodle and facebook as a source of online work. By usuing only the blogger website you are limited on what other services are out there. Using the same site over and over again is predictable and can become very boring at times. By changing sites up you enage the students more because it gives them something new to do and look at. Ways you can go about doing this is posting topic questions on moodle and uploading a box for the students to sumbit and creating a facebook page for the class where we can post things to your wall and comment on each others. These are all suggestions that can possibly improve the future of online assignments.
Over all I must say that even though I ran into a few problems I really enjoyed blogging with my classmates and hearing their opinions it was a new experience and I hope I have teachers that are open to the idea of using it in the future.

week 13 Blog post.

In today's society "Rushing" is the normal pace of life. People are always on the go from one place to the next and trying to get there as quickly as possible. When you are desperately on the move there is little time for slow pace activity and it can alter your entire plans by making you late for class or work. At the University of Louisiana at Lafayette there are many factors that cause delays which leads to time con strengths and parking is one of them. At U.L there is a limited amount of designated parking spaces available and most are only offered to faculty and students who reside on campus. Due to these situations there are very few options available to students whom must commute to school on a daily bases. This causes a problem because students are now forced to seeks parking else were off campus which leads to a new list of problems with in its self. If the parking situation is not fixed and remains to go unsolved then that cause students to be late to classes which and cause absence and eventually lead to dismissal from the university. In order to prevent these things from happening U.L must come up with an efficient way to end the parking crisis by developing other means of parking such as buying an open lot to use as a parking space or building another parking garage available to commuter students.

Prompt 3 answers 1-4

Question 1
Most times I read over an assignment two to three times before I begin to work on it. The reason is because I want to know that I fully understand what is being said or mentioned. During the assignment I skim over the information to refresh myself. I usually highlight or underline important details so they are noticeable when I am searching for the information. After my draft is done I read over the assignment twice more to make sure that I have followed the guidelines through out my paper and that my draft matches the concept of the assignment. The benefit of looking over assignments are for your own good. By looking over the assignment you can notice were a mistake has been made and correct it or find that there are no mistakes and notice your improvement.

Question  2
The information given in "Consider the Evidence" is a great source to consider when writing an argument from personal experience. There is nothing better than ones own personal experience to show them reality of the situation  While it is true that we all go through very similar situations in life it does not necessarily mean we handle them the same. I is very important to notice the difference among ourselves because we are not all the same. I believe that it is always best to use a personal experience because you have evidence of it first hand.

Question 3
The most useful tidbit from "Academic Writing is an Analysis was the "Myths about Writing section. The reason that this was so helpful to me is because it put to rest a lot of false literacy rules I use to follow. It was very surprising to me that the main things live been taught to avoid im now being encouraged to do. The myths proven these things wrong have now allowed me to change my normal form of writing. The part that I feel needs more explanation is the "Knowledge of Research Skills" section. I would have been better if the author would have listed different research strategies .

Question 4
Both pieces of material are helpful with supplying me with the tools ans strategies I need in order to produce a successful paper. They differ in the requirements department. "The Characteristics of Academic writing lets me identify with certain issues but the rubric actually brakes down in detail what information must be obtained  and it is also helpful in helping me make sure i have fulfilled all of the requirements.

Discussion Prompt 2- Question1,2 & 3

Question 1
Everyone is well familiar with buying goods from stores but not everyone knows that there can be many benefits to investing in homemade items. Homemade is the term used for items made at home rather in a store or factory. Homemade items are very convenient because they can be made using resources already available to you inside of the home. Homemade items can also be good money savers. By recycling things you already have to make new homemade items (such as a milk crate to be used as storage bin or pickle jar transformed into a piggy bank) you no longer have to spend money in stores. However some may consider homemade items to be of lesser value than those manufactured in a store because, homemade items are not backed by a company or corporation and may not be as efficient as something bought in a store. An example of this is some people may prefer to buy a store bought anti aging cream that has been tested and insured by a company rather than a homemade anti aging remedy that is made in someones kitchen.
The attitude and eagerness to learn Malcolm X displayed in "A Homemade Education" reminded me of the ambition of my father. My father is one like many Americans who did not obtain a college degree but not having a college education did not deter my father from learning. Through countless years of reading books dealing with everything from how to properly lose weight to raising your credit score, my father was able to educate himself beyond what a university could teach him. He learned to be his own teacher while still remaining a student.

Question 2
Malcolm X relates to the concepts of  "Teaching to Transgress" in many ways. Both Malcolm X and Bell Hooks both realized the importance of education in their lives and were willing to go the extra mile to not only learn but to also be active in their education. They were both social advocates who pushed the importance of education in the community. The difference between Malcolm X and Bell Hooks is unlike Bell Hooks who had the opportunity to be educated by a teacher in a class room, Malcolm X educated himself in prison due to his own willingness to learn. However, even though they learned in two different manners both still ended up as educated individuals.

Question 3
If I were locked in a cell such as Malcolm X was, Napoleonic Law would be the subject I took on interest to pursue. The reason is because I admire the uniqueness of Napoleonic Law and respect the connection it has to its founding country. The goal for my life after I am released  would be to take that acquired knowledge enter pre-law school and eventually become a lawyer that focuses in Napoleonic Law. I would use the education obtained in prison to be help me enter Law School.
